Forge Motorsport Renault Megane RS 280/300 - Intake
The Renault Megane RS 280/300 intake has been designed based on extensive engineering tests, dyno measurements, and flow analyses. The development focused on three main goals:
-
Low intake air temperatures compared to other aftermarket intakes
- Improved airflow
-
Stylish appearance that completes the engine bay's look
Optimal intake air temperature
The first goal was achieved by placing the PRORam filter in a CAD-designed aluminum intake housing. The original intake housing is located at the rear of the engine bay, where temperatures can easily rise high. Therefore, special attention was paid to preventing hot air entry and providing the most effective thermal protection for the intake housing.
Both original OE air ducts have been retained in the design to ensure the most efficient cold air flow to the filter. The aim of these solutions is to keep the intake air temperature (IAT) as low as possible.
More efficient airflow
The second goal was achieved by testing and comparing several different air filters. To ensure the reliability of the measurement results, the tests were performed on two independent dynamometers.
Test results showed that the best performance benefits were achieved with the PRORam Performance air filter.
Unlike many other aftermarket intakes, this system utilizes a large velocity stack air guide, inside which the air filter is positioned. The filter uses high-quality, high-flow synthetic nanofiber filter material, which is pleated to maximize the filtration surface area. This allows for greater airflow to the turbocharger.
Measured performance benefits
Measurement results show a clear performance improvement. The Forge Motorsport intake achieved a +15 hp power increase, even though the ambient temperature in the dynamometer measurement room increased by 3 °C during the test.
The greatest performance improvement was achieved by combining FMINDK31 and FMTIA4 components. The test was conducted during the hottest part of the day, but an impressive +20 hp power increase was still achieved.
At the same time, torque increased especially at lower revolutions, which improves the engine's throttle response and reactivity.
For comparison, a competing intake system available on the market was also tested. It was also found to perform well, highlighting the importance of an efficient and free-flowing filtration solution in this vehicle.
The test vehicle used was a Renault Megane RS 280 Cup, which had K-Tec Stage 1 programming, a performance exhaust system, and a sport catalytic converter.
Tests were conducted on Litchfield's Maha dynamometer. In addition, measurements were taken at Performance Remap's VTEC all-wheel-drive dynamometer in Gloucestershire. The use of two independent dynamometers allowed for cross-referencing results and ensuring the reliability of the measurements.
Stylish and refined design
In addition to performance, the goal has been to improve the appearance of the engine bay. The design has emphasized functionality above all else, but the end result was also intended to be subtle, high-quality, and purposeful.
The black, textured powder-coated finish gives the intake housing an OEM-level finish.
The cold air side of the intake housing has been left open to enhance airflow and to showcase the large PRORam filter.
From the first use, the finish of the structure and the quality of the materials are evident. Details such as the precisely machined MAF sensor mounting housing and laser-cut precision fasteners highlight the high manufacturing quality.
Better performance and a sportier sound profile
Thanks to more efficient airflow, in addition to increased performance, the engine's sound profile becomes slightly sportier.
Forge Motorsport offers a lifetime warranty for the components of the intake kit, which does not cover the air filter.
Compatibility
A frequently asked question is whether the intake is compatible with turbo inlet hoses from other manufacturers.
Yes. The system can be combined with inlet hoses from other manufacturers, and it is also compatible with the original Renault inlet hose.
