The original BMW oil cooler is all metal, which makes you think it would be pretty solid. However, there are several weak points in the design that cause leaks. The CSF Race-Spec construction reinforces the weak points, especially around the supply and return lines. The CSF single-line connection block can withstand all the abuse that is thrown at it.
CSF also upgraded the more sensitive Tub/Fin cell to a robust and durable Bar/Plate design. The cell is 40% larger than OEM and features 2 additional oil cooling rows and a much thicker cell (63mm vs. OE 45mm). This provides excellent cooling performance and volume for the oil system. TIG welded end tanks complete the range of upgrades, creating a much stronger joint than the factory brazed construction.
Whether your M5/M6 is a casual road cruiser or a track monster, all can benefit from an upgraded oil cooler. Supercharged S85 will benefit the most because extra power always generates more heat. High oil temperatures can quickly put your car into limp mode and in the worst cases lead to catastrophic engine damage. CSF’s new engine oil cooler is also a great preventative maintenance upgrade that will avoid expensive repairs and extend the life of your vehicle.
