The world's first model-specific air filter system for the Porsche 992 Turbo & Turbo S models!
Background
With the 992 generation, Porsche completely redesigned the intercooler and air filter design compared to the previous 996, 997 and 991 generations. Each car model has its own technical challenges and starting points. Although the basic principle has remained the same, the 992's intercooler system design is completely new, and this also directly affects the air intake.
Unlike previous models, the 992 no longer uses a common air filter for both superchargers. The filters and their housings are now located inside each rear fender. Air intake is via air intakes in the tailgate, which share space with the intercooler air deflectors and the air intakes in the rear fenders.
The solution has been considered, but there is still room for improvement – and the do88 air intake kit meets this need.
Design starting points
The efficiency of supercharged engines is directly affected by intake air temperature (IAT) and system backpressure. An often underestimated factor is sufficient airflow before the compressor to avoid supercharger surging.
Less vacuum and cooler air allow for greater air mass production, which means more air for the engine – and ultimately clear power gains. A well-designed air intake system can achieve significant performance improvements.
After many years of development, testing and analysis, a clear connection has been found between intake air temperature, adequate airflow and engine power output. This is why do88 ended up with a closed air intake system that is not as sensitive to ambient temperature as open filter solutions.
In addition, the potential for significantly better performance than what traditional panel filters can offer was seen.
Finished product
The development began with a 3D scan of the entire installation area of the car. This enabled precise CAD design in the SolidWorks environment. The air filter system was optimized for airflow, bend radii and angles through several design rounds.
The finished product was tested using both CFD flow calculations and the Superflow SF1020 flow bench to provide customers with reliable and measured performance information.
The do88 air intake kit is made from premium, vacuum-infused prepreg carbon fiber. The design maximizes the space available in the car to improve airflow.
The carbon fiber housings are designed to fit large BMC cone air filters, which use the manufacturer's best filter material. The kit replaces the entire original air filter housing and offers a real performance improvement.
Delivery content and options
The kit includes everything needed for installation on Porsche 992 Turbo and Turbo S models. Available in three versions:
-
do88 air intake kit with 66 mm connections for original intake hoses
-
do88 air intake kit with 66 mm connections and do88's own 66 mm intake hoses
-
do88 air intake kit with 80 mm connections and 80 mm intake hoses
All options offer improved airflow. The 80mm version requires a little more space on the inner fender side of the rear tires, which is worth considering when planning any additional modifications.
The kit brings clear benefits, especially in tuned cars that require more air, but even in completely standard cars, the improvement in airflow is reflected in the performance.
