Wavetrac – Smooth is Fast
Wavetrac is the only gear-type limited-slip differential on the market that doesn't lose all drive even if one drive shaft is unweighted or loses its load. Such situations arise, for example, during aggressive driving, track driving in corners, driving over kerbs, or on very slippery surfaces – much more often than many might realize.
At this point, we won't delve into torque bias ratios or how torque-biasing differentials technically work. Let's focus on how Wavetrac affects a car's performance.
How does Wavetrac improve performance?
Imagine a situation with a traditional gear-type differential, such as OEM, Quaife, MF, OBX, Truetrac, or Torsen. You're at a track day, and in a corner, the car's inner wheel hits a kerb and momentarily unweights. This is completely normal in track driving.
The problem arises because during that brief moment, the load on the inner tire disappears, meaning the other wheel doesn't receive drive – engine power isn't effectively transferred to the road.
Gear-type differentials require load on both axles to function. As a result, on the track or during aggressive driving, a standard gear-type differential can only intermittently transfer power to the gripping wheel whenever the other wheel unweights.
With Wavetrac, the situation is different.
Wavetrac's patented cam mechanism prevents the loss of drive in situations where the inner wheel unweights. The mechanism can create a load within the differential that replaces the lost load precisely when it's needed. This load can then be utilized and transferred to the gripping wheel.
The result is smoother and more consistent power transfer throughout the corner. The car behaves more predictably, driver confidence increases, and overall, the car is faster.
Other Benefits
-
Patented Carbon-Fiber Bias Plate design for satellite gears
In other gear-type LSD differentials, the satellite gears operate directly against the differential housing. As a result, friction characteristics change with use – the operation of a new differential can differ significantly from one that has been in use for a long time. Wavetrac's patented carbon-fiber Bias Plate design maintains consistent differential operation and performance throughout its lifespan.
-
Patented Wave Profile design
Eliminates handling and traction loss issues associated with near-zero and very low-load situations that occur in other gear-type ATB differentials.
-
ARP bolts throughout
High-quality ARP fasteners ensure excellent structural strength and reliability even in very demanding use.
-
9310 steel gears
Very strong 9310 steel gears are installed in a machined or forged steel housing for maximum durability.

Wavetrac – Smooth is Fast
Wavetrac is specifically designed for high-performance street cars that are also driven on the track. It offers exceptional durability but remains virtually imperceptible during normal street driving, both to the driver and to the car's traction control and stability systems.
On the track or during spirited street driving, Wavetrac efficiently transfers power to both wheels without the handling issues caused by traditional clutch-type differentials. Wavetrac does not have a tendency to cause the car to push or increase understeer in the same way that traditional clutch-based limited-slip differentials can.
Wavetrac outperforms other gear-type differentials in a crucial way: it does not lose drive in situations where one drive shaft unweights or loses its load – and such situations occur in real-world driving much more often than one might imagine.
One of Wavetrac's most underestimated benefits, however, is its extremely smooth and controlled power transfer at the limit of grip.
The patented design enables predictable and smooth power delivery precisely when it's needed most: when the car is in the middle of a corner at the limit of grip and the throttle is used to maintain the car's balance, or when a corner has been entered a bit too fast and the throttle can be quickly reapplied to maintain exit speed.
These situations are partly subjectively experienced by the driver, but the advantage offered by Wavetrac is clearly felt behind the wheel.
Wavetrac makes the car faster because it enables more confident, consistent, and trust-inspiring driving.
